Bristol Parishes
« on: Monday 14 September 09 16:32 UTC (UK) »

Hello All
Trying to find info on two Bristol parishes, St Philip and St Jacob In, and St Philip and St Jacob Out.... are they adjacent for example?  And what does the In and Out signify?  I came across them on the 1881 census but can't seem to drum up much info about them!

Thanks,
Brenda

Hi Brenda

It's always a good idea to start with Genuki - and in this instance it leads to this website:

http://www.about-bristol.co.uk/

The site tells you about the various parishes and whether they were within or without the city walls.

Kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Hello Arranroots
Yes, I did start with Genuki through Google but was finding little more than passing references.  The site you found was perfect, love the idea of the parishes being "within and without"!

Thanks,
Brenda
