1851 lookup Hartley ST James

William Samuel Hartley was born in 1842 St James and married Eliza Wright on 4 may 1862, i have their marriage cert  and it states his father is also called William Samuel could anyone see them on 1851 census please William jnr would be about 9 then. dont know mums name
Would be grateful of any hel p  please Cheers Jules

I found this William Hartley that fits your William Samuel's age at St James.  Hope it's the right one.   I'll look up the address when I view the original transcript of the record.  God bless.  Mary x x

1841 for St James.  No actual address shown but next house was 12 Crop St

Ann Hartley 49 widow b Bromley Middlesex
Emma 13 b St James
William 9 b St James

Hi again.  It looks like Croft Street or something similar Number 397.  Ann is a widow and her occupation looks as if it says launderess.   It shows her as born in Bromley. x x

I have tried to find Ann & Emma on the 1841 to check her husband was William but cannot find them.  Ann was b approx 1802 so they could have married anytime from the early 1820's and could have had other children who had left home by 1851

This is the only entry I can find but no Emma.   Chiswick - Middlesex.  Both shown as b Middlesex.  Ages were rounded down to the nearest 5yrs in 1841 so William could have been between 50-54 and Ann between 35-39

There are too many marriages for a William Hartley with a spouse called Ann on the IGI at www.familysearch.org to determine the correct one so I would strongly recommend that you buy a copy of William's birth cert to establish her maiden name
