I only have to ask you - I only have you to ask:)

Elsie Wardle was a witness to the marriage in Aug 1924 of Leonard Wardle to Lena Margurite Wardle, formerly Green, at the Parish Church of St Peter, Congleton. I want to establish whether Elsie and Leonard were related. Leonard's parents were Frederick Wardle and Sarah Wardle, formerly Mullock. Leonard was born in Aug 1903, living at The Moss, Congleton. I have a copy of a birth certificate of an Elsie Wardle. The parents were Matthew Wardle and Mary Lavinia Wardle, formerly Bradshaw. Elsie was born in March 1894, living at Bennet Street, Buxton. Incidently, my home town. Frederick and Matthew could have been brothers and Elsie could have been Leonards cousin. In that case all censuses look-ups are requested, please. A bit detailed, I know, but it all helps to find the right one. It is too much of a coincidence to find a Wardle as a witness to a marriage and have no idea if she was a family member. The only Wardle member left alive is my half-brother, aged 85, and he wants to know who Elsie was on his parents' marriage certificate.
Many thanks for your help, Bethgem

I cant look up at the moment as Ancestry is having some sort of blip! Hopefully will be working soon. But just wanted to say that the of course it is possible that the Elsie Wardle who was was the witness might not have been born a Wardle - she may be married to one - eg be a sister in law

Hi
Matthew and Mary Lavinia WARDLE (both 47) are in Buxton in 1901 - children with them are as follows:
Mary Jane 23 Harriett 16 Maria 15 Flora 12 Clara 9
No Elsie with them, I'm afraid.
1901 ref is RG13/3269/77/14

There seems to be an Elsie WARDLE born about 1906 in Congleton on the 1911 census. Maybe worth a peek??

Hi,
Agree with MaureenR as she would appear to be the daughter of Frederick and Sarah with a couple of Mullocks living with them too.
