Late 19th Century Geographical Perspective
« on: Tuesday 15 September 09 13:24 UTC (UK) »

Ok so I was given help tracing a possible ancestor

William Dickinson bap. Saxilby 29 March 1786. TWIN --- son of William and Mary.
Sister at same baptism date -- Mary -- TWIN

Sounds good  Smiley

Just found a good possible parents of Wm 1786-- William Dickinson married Mary Cottingham Sept 1756 at Nettleham - just up't'road from Saxilby

Sounded like William and Mary Senior would be old at birth but all Christian Names fitted, especially continuation of name William.  Undecided

So, after some searching I have these possibilities.

William Dickinson bap 1742 in Claypole (of John and Ann Dickinson)
William Dickinson buried Jan 1824 aged 83 at Claypole
Mary Dickinson  buried Jun 1806 aged 64 at Claypole

If connected this suggests

Williams parents (William and Mary) born and died in Claypole
William born 1786 and baptised in Saxilby (fact), marrried Skellingthorpe June 1812 (fact), died Reepham Feb 1860 (fact).

It's the parents getting married in Nettleham (close so I can well believe) but more so the Claypole bit I don't quite know. Does such a movement sound correct for the times ?

Or am I way off the mark finding connections (Williams fathers birth in Claypole) just because it fits?

HELP Huh

It's quite feasible that they were to get married a few miles away from Saxilby.

What seems less likely to me is that the Nettleham couple were still having kids 30 years later - they managed up to 1774 in Nettleham.

Re the Claypole DICKINSONs ...
You say William was born 1742 Claypole
He probably married Mary ALDERSON or ALDRIDGE at Westborough in 1767 a couple of miles from Claypole
They had children 1767-81 at Claypole
They were buried at Claypole.

No, I don't they went to Saxilby.

William and Mary baptisms looked good until I took a closer look at Saxilby data.

William and Mary (twins) buried 31/3/1786 - listed as Dickenson rather than Dickinson but far too coincidental.

Back to square one, looking for birth of William Dickinson of Saxilby circa 1787.
