I have just joined this site and was wondering if anyone is researching the name NAYLOR in the West Yorkshire area?

Hi

Yes I have a Martha Naylor 1697c married into my family, a Charles Hall. Both believed to have been from the Dewsbury area, possible Liversedge.

What can you tell me about your Naylor family?

My mother was a Naylor. She was born in Heckmondwike, her father was born in Drighlington, and his ancestors were from Flockton. Any connection?

Hi

I have not got far in my Naylor search, only as far back at 1845.  My Grandad was called Harold Naylor and he married a Clara Akeroyd in 1919.  Harold was born in 1809, but i am unable to find a birth certificate for him but on his marriage certificate is father is named as William Smith Naylor, and if i have the right Naylor he was born in Keighley but this is only supposition.  Suggested birthyear for William Smith is 1845/46.

My maiden name was Naylor also.  Any connection.

Hi Rizla,

Firstly I would like to welcome you to RC.

On the 1901 Census is a William S Naylor born at Keighley & living in Halifax with his son Harold Naylor aged 12.  Harold was born in Halifax (c1889) according to the Census so there are 2 possibilities on the FreeBMD site.
Births Dec 1888
NAYLOR    Harold         Halifax    9a   506
Births Mar 1890
Naylor    Harold         Halifax    9a   375

William S Naylor's father was also called William (born c1801 at Keighley) who married Catherine Brown nee Smith in 1842 so that is where his middle name has come from.  From the 1851 Census it looks like they have both been married before.

I don't think William Smith Naylor was registered with a middle name & there are 2 William Naylor's born Keighley in 1846 (March & September)

Hope this will help you get started on this family,

Gill
