Owen Davies of Manardivy/Kilgerran
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 07:29 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for information on Owen Davies parents who was born in Manardivy/Kilgerran sometime between 1817 and 1821.  His father's name was Daniel Davies.  Owen Davies was a stone mason and married Esther Thomas in 1840.  I know religion was a big part of their life as two sons became Revs.  Any help please.  Thanks Maryann

Dear Sir
If the mrge of Daniel Davies did take place in Pembrokeshire, because given Owen’s location in the ’41 census it could well have taken place in a neighbouring parish in Cardigan or Carmarthenshire, then the nearest suggestion I can make is 01 Feb 1816 Daniel Davies to Anne Thomas in Cilrhedyn.
Given that Owen still resides in Manordivy in ’81 with a suggested year of birth abt1817, is there any chance that the fathers forename on Mrge Cert could be misread for ‘David’.
Did Owen’s mrge (1840) take place in Chapel? If so then given such minimal non-conformist records in Pembrokeshire, finding a baptism entry for Owen may be difficult, not least that the non-conformist chapel circuit in this area may well cover part of Cardigan and/or Carmarthen thus there being the possibility of the non-conformist baptism & burials for this cct being held in a totally different Record Office.
Another indication of non-conformity is the lack of a baptism for Owen circa 1817-1823 in Manordivy or surrounding parishes.

Thank you for your reply.  Owen and his wife where married at the Parish Church in the Paris of Chapel Colman on Nov 14 1840.  Two of their sons became Baptist Ministers at early ages.  I got their fathers names from their marriage certificate.  Daniel Davies (a farmer) and William Thomas (a Labourer).
This is the only info I have on Daniel but it is very clear and I don't think if could be mistaken for David.

I appreciate your help in my finding my family.
