Completed - Welshpool - Harriet WHITE b. ca. 1819
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 13:03 UTC (UK) »

I'm trying to find the birth or baptism record for my gg grandmother Harriet WHITE. I've tried IGI without success.

In 1849 , aged 30 and a widow, as Harriet BRYAN, father John WHITE, butcher, she married my gg grandfather Thomas CARTWRIGHT (widower) in Aston, Warwickshire. They later lived in Coventry where Thomas was a watch maker finisher.

In census return information Harriet's place of birth is given as Welshpool, Montgomeryshire.

Some of Thomas' and Harriet's children were recorded in the censuses as nephews/nieces living with the family of James OWEN in Staffordshire (in the '71 census, my great grandmother was listed as adopted daughter). James' wife Fanny/Frances' place of birth is also recorded as Welshpool, ca. 1819 (could be earlier as she is shown as 5 years James' senior, and may have knocked a couple of years off her age).

I would be very grateful if anyone with access to baptism registers in Welshpool could try to find Harriet, and also see if there is a Frances/Fanny White if, as seems likely, they were sisters.

Thanks again Gadget. If that is Susanna, then she was only 14 when Frances was baptised Shocked

The baptism information for Harriet may have helped solve a mystery. Harriet married my gg grandfather as a widow, surname Bryan. I couldn't find a Harriet White marriage to a Bryan on either IGI or FreeBMD; however Harriet may have married her first husband as Hewitt -  there is a Harriet Hewitt m. Edward Bryan, St. John, Coventry 17 October 1842.
