Recent Canadian Records

XXX married XXX in January 1968 and I believe moved with him to Canada.
Is it possible to trace people in Canada? From the limited research I have done there does not seem to be the same freedom of information that exists in the UK and America.
If anyone has been successful with Canadian records could you please let me know where to start.

I'd like to welcome you to RootsChat as well.

Canada does have very strict privacy laws. However, if you are searching for someone with an uncommon surname, you could try searching a directory:
http://www.411.com/

If you haven't done so already, you could try searching the internet for the person (using a search engine like Google). I've had some results using the person's full name, with some/all of the following words: his/her occupation, place of birth, parents' names, siblings' names, intended destination, etc.

Records you can use for more recent people in Canada include:

* telephone directories
* land records
* monument inscriptions
* newspaper notices, particularity obituaries.
