NZ RSA Records
« on: Thursday 17 September 09 09:22 UTC (UK) »

Been reading about NZ world war 1 records and remember being told by a friend in Perth that the RSA keeps track of deaths of former serving soldiers from world war 2.

Have lost track of a cousin who served in NZ army in Pacific - would be well into 90's if still alive and have no contacts with this branch of family - died out!

Anyone have any knowledge of this RSA thing or suggestions to find out what has happened to him. Havent been to Ak library for some time - how up to date is death records in microfische

Hi Lu, tried nz death index, but David Rash died since 1987 so wasn't able to search - death has to be historical i.e. 50 years ago.  Will ring library to see wot date their death microfisches are up to
Many thanks

Mmm   ... I think quite probably you have misunderstood what is available on the Historical (online) index.   Smiley

And perhaps Newbe has now found who it is you are looking for ?

Hi Newbe and Lu,  Bingo! yes this entry is the one I seek.  He never married so the name Rash died out with his death.  He was the only one of his generation with the name.  As far as I am aware there are now no Rash families in New Zealand.  Surprising, considering my Dad was from a family of 13, 8 of whom were boys.  Only 4 grew to adulthood however, and only two married, with David being a sole male - his sister had two boys but of course their name is not Rash!
Many thanks for the help both Lu and Newbe have given

Hi There,

Great I could help you with this. next time you go to Auckland Central Library on the second Floor that have a computer with BMD for 1991 to 1997

If you look for his name on the death reg on there you will find the area his death was registered in.

I have checked the Burial Locator V2 from NZSG and he is not listed on there

Newbe

PS: By the way Auckland Central Library is the only library in NZ to have this

Hi Newbe, Yes I realise the Auckland library has extensive collections in their research section on first floor.  Have used them extensively early on for the Rash F/tree (during the 90's).  Unfortunately I have been on crutches for the last 6 months after breaking my hip (unable to drive) and therefore
hamstrung regarding getting out - been cleared to drive now and am now able to sit at computer for longer periods, so back into researching with a vengence.  Rash F/tree is relatively complete and am now concentrating on mother's side Lawlor/Todd/Devereaux and also my husbands Larkin side out of UK originally.  Another member of the clan is doing his mothers side (Fidgeon) in the UK.

Incidentally David Rash's death will be Wellington - he never moved out of there except for war service in the Pacific.
Probably interment at Karori (family plot) or cremation.
He does have two nephews (Morfee) at least one of which was living in Wellington.

Again many thanks
