Emma Field c. 1802
« on: Thursday 17 September 09 22:07 UTC (UK) »

Hi,

I don't know if anyone in the Herefordshire area can help to trace Emma Field born circa 1802.  Her husband John Powell was also born c 1802.

She married John Powell in Cheltenham in 1826 and on the 1841 census states that neither were born in the county.

I am working my way round each county taking the the nearest ones to Gloucestershire first.

As Powell sounds to be a Welsh surname but very common, thought I would start with his wife as her name is not so common.  I rather think they both came from the same area to live in Cheltenham.  John's occupation on the baptism records was draper, milliner and milkman.  In 1841 he was a farmer but died 1846 so I am unable to find his place of birth.

Emma died in 1850 so she didn't make the 1851 census either, so I am really clutching at straws in trying Herefs.

Thanks in adavance for any informaton that might be forthcoming.

Hi Allan,

Thanks for taking the time to look up Emma Field for me.  I have those two already and am hoping one of them will prove to be right but not sure how to prove it.  At least they are fairly close to Gloucestershire and could well be a possibility.

I am hoping the marriage entry in the register will give me a clue but have to wait for a friend to look it up for me.  That's the trouble when you are a long way from the records office, if only I had looked it up for myself when I was last in UK.

Your interest is much appreciated.
