Squinty Pup, Molly Bloom. Yes, I said, yes…
|
I am trying to find the parents and forebears of William WORDSWORTH, of Little Houghton. He is supposed to have a father named William of Greater Houghton…
William 2 was born around 1671. He married Sarah SENIOR, daughter of Thomas SENIOR and Elizabeth WATSON, on 1 May 1703 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.1 He died on 30 Oct 1746 at Little Houghton, Darfield, YKS.2 He was buried on 1 Nov 1746 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.3 His estate was probated on 3 Apr 1747 at York, YKS.4
Sarah SENIOR was born in 1680 at Edderthorpe, Darfield, YKS. She was baptized on 9 Jan 1680/81 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.5 She died in Jun 1767 at Little Houghton, Darfield, YKS.2 She was buried on 25 Jun 1767 at All Saints, Darfield, YKS.6
I have lots of info related to my family from here on out - but nothing about William and Sarah Senior's parents and earlier family history. For any interested parties, I have an expansive chart in PDF form that I will email. It's focus is on my direct line from William and Sarah Senior, but there is a wealth of info and names that may help someone in their search.
Any help would be massive to get me further back in time! Pointers or people who can help would be most appreciated. Can pay for UK assistance. Thanks!

Yes Darfield records on microfiche are held at DFHS, see below for what they hold. they have a very good research room well equipped with readers and computers connected to the internet to search the census records etc. well worth a visit , if its within your reach.

Too true, Redroger…even my formidable swimming skills wouldn't help…does anyone think that the Doncaster FHS would do research for a fee? I'm hoping to get to the UK next year after things (H1N1 flu, market collapse, housing crash, wall street hoodlums, no meaningful healthcare) settle down a bit. I have a Chartered Accountantcy indirect cousin who has challenged me to come to Yorkshire in the winter…I think not…since the South where my wife and I reside really doesn't have a winter per se, and I can't remember the last time I saw meaningful snow on the ground. The Accountant lives in Keigthley… I'd really like to do a FHS couple of weeks research and renew my CAMRA real ale license - do we all drink Wadworths 6X? Many gratis's for the Silkstone materials - looks like I will be doing some serious computer reading ocver the next few days.

The first year we moved South from "New" England (now there's a concept!), we had 3 feet of snow here. Our neighbors blamed us for it, being Northerners. Mostly we get about three inches, the city (1.25 million souls) closes down, Southern drivers suddenly turn into imbeciles and crash into virtually everything - for some reason unbeknownst to me, snow comes, brains leave… The local grocery stores run out of milk and toilet paper(?)…go figure. We suffer for two or three days of sub-30 degree fahrenheit weather, the sun comes out and the snow melts. Sanity returns…somewhat.
So thanks for the advice - I'll time our trip so that we can hike up to Wadsworth Moor and do the "Wine and Wobble" tour of the local brew pubs.
Cheers!

We are getting that way with driving now, many of our drivers under 40 have very little experience of any real snow, or for that matter ice, so when it comes everything gridlocks, and there are many silly collisions. I remember the early 1960s when we really had winters, continous frost and snow from December until early April with no let up, temperatures continously below freezing, and below 0 Fahrenheit for several days. Several feet of snow, tidal rivers and the sea freezing, very unusual for England. Those were the days.

Bombergirl sent me some great connections that I have been searching for for about 10 years…I have now gotten past my stumbling block: William Wordsworth & his wife Sarah Senior - more details are needed to fill in some blanks, but I have about 8 more generations of direct line names to research. Bombergirl is a cousin about 9 generations back! Not what I'd call a blood relative …but at least now I can say we have relatives in Australia! Put another shrimp on the barbee, Mate!
…Where did that Aussie beer go I had in the fridge?
Once I get the big chart spiffed out with the new info, I'll pas it along to you and OLY.
Regards,
Gerry
