Hi, thanks for help yesterday
Could someone please check 1851 census, (or earlier), for a Jane Monkhouse, born abt 1835 in Ulverstone, Westmorland. Her age has varied by 3 years on later census records.

Confused though
1841 8 years old
1851 18 years old
1861 24 years old (though a servant, so householder may have guessed)
1871 35 years old
1881 46 years old
May have to dig again!
She was called Jane Monkhouse in 1861 as a servant, though the householder (Critchley) had children, living later in 1871 with her as Jane Smith. (Children called Critchley)
I had assumed this was the same Jane.
In 1881 she had a different husband though still a Smith.
Tracked in 1861, 1871 and 1881 through her son Robert Critchley b. 1862 in Preston, Lancs.
I'll have a rethink

Well we would all like to knock a few years off our age i suppose..!
Nice to think they did it back then too....
Check Osmotherley in 1861..Looks like both Robert & Mary had died..Robert 1853 and Mary (2 possibles) 1853 or 1859.
Found sons John. James & Jonathan..no sign of Jane though, so looks like she had moved on...
Did find a marriage in Preston..?
Jane Monkhouse to John Joseph Barton...... 1870
Did find a John Barton living at home but showing married..no sign of wife...
Scene gets cloudier...sorry.
