I couldn't see a burial either for Margaret baptised 29 April, but it was noted as a private baptism and she was born 10th 18th April.

It was the way the 8 was written, sorry.

So it looks like these two baptisms are the same Margaret, don't you agree?

Could be I suppose but it is not suppose to be done but if you had a distraught mother with an ill infant they might--or one could be received into the church.  I had one in Jarrow and the BT's had them both there but if you look at the parish register the second one refered to the entry number of the first.  With help of others around me at Tyne and Wear Archives we figured the scribble was essentually latin for null and void on the second one.  That child eventually died.

I found some other entries on the Metcalf family--right now the internet for me here is painfully slow.

pg 110 burial  John Metcalf, New Elvet, 10th child of Richard Metcalf, Smith, native of this parish and his wife Margaret Grey of Berwick upon Tweed died 16 Nov 1802, buried 17 Nov 1802, age 2

Those 2 illigitimate children were of the single woman Martha and also the burials of the same.

I looked through 1812 on the BT's to see if I could find a burial for Richard Metcalf but no luck so maybe he was after 1837 but my index goes through 1839 and no Richard.
