Wakeling - Strood
« on: Friday 18 September 09 11:09 UTC (UK) »

Hiya Cheesy

I am researching the ancestry of my great-nanna's side of my family. I have struck a brickwall trying to find out more information about her great-grandmother, Margaret Hughes nee Wakeling. Margaret married John Hughes. Margaret Wakeling was born in 1826 in Strood, Kent and her parents were William Wakeling and Margaret (nee Skinner??). From what I have gathered, Margaret was the eldest of her siblings. She was followed by Charlotte, William, Eleanor, James, John and Ann. John and Ann were born in Middlesex. However, the rest were born in Strood, Kent. I do not know anything about Margaret's parent, other than circumstantial sources. I will be thankful for any help than anyone can give me.

Cheers

So are these parents dead by census time?
Do they not have any age, birthplace or occupation info?
What leads to to believe that Margaret Wakeling b1826 Strood may have had a mother Margaret Skinner?

You seem unsure as to Margaret's surname being SKINNER - may we ask the source of this ie. have you found a marriage for William & Margaret or birth certificate of one of the two possible younger children on the 1841 census Huh

Hi all,

I should really keep track of my postings... Pauline, I have no access to census records. Pauline and Casalguidi - I am unsure about the surname Skinner because I obtained that information through contacting a woman on Ancestry that had these ancestors there. It is the only time I have come across the surname - so I am unsure because there is no particularly certain 'proof'. Thanks Trish and Casalguidi for the information that you provided. Cheesy

Cheerio,
