Would anyone know if there are records for Hyde Fever Hospital, in particular for nusing staff, 1915 to 1920?

Hello Glenys

I looked at your previous post on the Cheshire look up regarding Jane's death in 1917 . I live in Tameside  so I can do a little research for you . I have made arrangements with our local studies library to check the microfilm for the time of her death in relation to local newspapers to see if there is an orbituary for her . I hope to do this later on in the week .

If you google Tameside local Images and search "Hyde Hospital" there are some photographs . The hospital is still there but there is a photo on there for the diptheria ward , I am not sure if that will be still there . I will try to get any information on staffing . Was Jane a resident of Hyde ?

Regards

Eric

Hi Eric,

Jane's family home was in Caernarvon, in 1911 she was living there with her widowed ma and younger sister.  Don't know when she became a probationary nurse in Hyde.

Thank you so much for your kind offer of doing some research for me.

I have found she was buried in a public grave, Hyde Cemetery  with nine other pour souls, possibly because they too had died of scarlet fever!

I spent 29 years working at Hyde Hospital (ending Feb thius year)

There were 4 wards.  Ward 4 was the TB ward,

Very much later wards 5 and 6 were built for psycho Geriatrics.

Wards 1 to 4 have been demolished and the land used to build a private nuirsing home.

The building which included 5 and 6 is used for non-nursing now.

For information you need to contact Pennine Trust or get correct contact info from Tameside Hospital.
