Ada and Walter were Caroline's children. were they?
Maria to old to be their mother.......

Is Ada the one birth registered 1870 Plumstead as ROBERTS?

Given the 'anomolies' with the 1891 - Ada CARTER listed as servant, not a daughter or step-daughter, and listed after Walter -   I'd have to wonder about this marriage which took place before the 1891:

Mar Qtr 1889 Woolwich:  Ada ROBERTS and William Joseph BRIGGS
(the other couple on same page are together in 1911, tho not immediately seeing in 1901)

Cant find WJ & Ada BRIGGS in 1901 found, see next , or 1911

Actually,  Ada ROBERTS on 1881 and Ada CARTER on 1891, same yob &  pob admittedly -  but are they same people?

Cheers

Hmmm - nope, just found them  Smiley
RG12 /  Piece: 533 /  Folio 93; Page 62

The Ada ROBERTS who married Wm J BRIGGS is with him in Woolwich Arsenal in 1891.
She's age 22 and born abt 1869 Plumstead.
They also have Ada's sister,  Henrietta ROBERTS age 17, b abt 1874 Plumstead and their father, George ROBERTS in the household.

This Ada BRIGGS nee ROBERTS?  is the one registered 1870 Woolwich?

So where was Ada ROBERTS/CARTER's birth registered?
Is she : Elizabeth Ada CARTER registered Woolwich Jun Qtr 1871?

Cheers

FMP has an Ada ROBERTS b abt 1870 leaving London in 1891 bound for Melbourne (Victoria)  Australia

http://www.access.prov.vic.gov.au/public/PROVguides/PROVguide023/PROVguide023.jsp
Had Ada ROBERTS age 21 arriving in state of Victoria, Australia in November 1891 on the "Orient"
Index to Unassisted Inward Passenger Lists to Victoria 1852-1923
Checking back on FMP - same person.

There are 2 other ROBERTS on the same ship, but none are on the same pages

Is Ada the one birth registered 1870 Plumstead as ROBERTS?

If it's early in 1870 then I suspect not.

Ok, 3 Sept 1866
Caroline Roberts (of Age) Marrues James Carter (of Age) Labourer at St Mary Magdalen Woolwich.

Her Father was Richard Roberts Hammerman (or BlackSmith), so seems to be the 'right one'
His father was George Carter a smith

Witness Jesse George Mansfield and Maria Worthington

July 19th 1867
Anne Carter Bapt to James & Caroline Carter at The 1861/1871 census address

Sept 19th 1868
Annie Carter BURIAL aged 1year 4months at 1861/1871 census address.

My head hurts...
