Hi,
I am looking for the marriage between Thomas Charlton 1619-1690 (b Sandiacre, later lived at Chilwell) and Tabitha. I know that Tabitha is the "heiress" of William Nix of Nottingham but not how she is related, if at all.
On the IGI there is a Thomas Charlton married to a Tabitha Nye 16 Oct 1639 South Wilford, Nottingham. A possibility but it is a submitted record.
Thanks Brie

Thank-you very much. I'm glad she is a relative of William Nix (hopefully a daughter). It looks as if he was Mayor of Nottingham at some point so now I'll try and find his will.
Thanks again Brie

Thank-you for this info Carol. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a will in the National Archives. Something else for the next visit to Notts Record Office. I'm hoping they will also have a copy of the licence
I wonder who the other Thomas Charlton and Tabitha N were? Did you spot that they only married one day apart?

Hi Brie
It's the same couple. I think the 15th Oct would be the date the licence was granted not the day they married.
When I applied for a marriage licence it was held at the Manuscripts and Special Collections dept at the Nottingham University. I phoned them up (0115 9514565) and gave them all the details. When they had located the document they wrote to me with the price etc. Very helpful.
I am going to the Records Office in a couple of weeks so will check the Will index if you haven't already been by then.

Thanks Carol.
I will find out where the marriage licence is (University or Records Office) and I would very much appreciate it if you could check the wills index as I don't know when I'll next be in the E. Mids. Then I will apply for both - if there is a will that is.
Thanks again Brie

Hi Brie
Not sure why this is in completed messages. It has taken me ages to find it.
There were a few documents for William Nix, but couldn't see a Will
William Nix (major) 1650 document ref, M416 F 225 Williame Nixe (alderman) 1642 document ref, Z26 William Nix (deceased) 1655 document ref, DD683/20
a couple of Wills around that time that may belong to the same family
Thomas Nix (gent) 31 Oct 1628 proved 20 Aug 1629 Nottingham Robert Nix (gent) 4 Oct 1662 proved 3 Nov 1662 / 22 Dec 1662
I suppose if your write to Nottingham Archives they could copy the documents for you.

Hi Sunflower,
My apologies for moving the post to completed. I did it as you had answered my original question and I didn't think about you coming back to it. Sorry.
Thank-you for this further information. It is very much appreciated I shall certainly investigate it.
