Please help with 1891 census look-up of Laura Evans c1843 and family of Ffestiniog, Merionethshire. I would be most interested in anyothers included on the census entry (maybe Cathrine Evans or Roberts for example). Thank you.

Hi Heywood and Pam, Heywood has found the correct Laura Evans (formerly Jones?) entry.
Laura Evans (my great great grandmother) was still living at Bryn Barlwyd Festinioglwyd Festiniog in 1901 with her son in law (my great grandfather William Roberts who listed as a widower) and his four daughters (Laura, Annie, Cathrine and Jane, my grandmother).
I'm pretty sure that I've found the correct William Roberts living in Ynysybwl in 1911, but he calls his wife Cathrine and claims to have been married for 20 years?!?!
In 1911 William's age and birthplace (Merionethshire) are correct and he's still living with his daughters Jane and Cathrine, who again are of the correct age and birthplace (there are said to be four living children).
My gran (Jane) married a Pontypridd man and is buried in Ynysybwl, so the Ynysybwl connection is very persuasive!
But how could William have been married to Cathrine for 20 years when in 1901 he was listed as widowed??
I'm blown away with the William and Jane Roberts information and I need to get my head around the details.
If you can post the William and Jane Roberts with daughter Laura 1891 census details I would be most grateful.
Everytime I think I understand my mother's side of the family a new name or address springs up and clouds the issue. But better to to have too much information than too little!
Thanks for your interest and information, it really is most helpful.
Kind regards
Chris

Hi Heywood,
I think the mystery is solved!
William Roberts marries Jane and they have their first daughter Laura, as described in the 1891 census. After having three more daughters Jane dies in 1895 (no doubt in childbirth - the date fits).
Therefore in 1901 William (now described a widower) is living with Laura Evans (his mother in law) and his four daughters.
By 1911 William has remarried (1905) to Cathrine and moved to Ynysybwl, where my gran (Jane) met her husband to be (my granddad) and was buried in 1932 (again after childbirth!).
Perhaps William describes the marriage as being of 20 years to ensure that his girls are seen as being born within wedlock?
When Jane (my gran) married in 1925 she described her, by then late, father (William Roberts) as a coal miner and not a slate miner as William had been described in both the 1891 and 1901 censuses. Surely another pointer toward the 1911 Ynysybwl census showing the correct William Roberts family?
Thank you for helping me so much.
Kind regards
Chris

Hi Kath
Families are as confusing as they are intriguing.
My maternal grandmother (Jane) and grandfather married in Birkenhead and lived there for a year following the birth of their first child before returning to live in Pontypridd.
I can only guess that Jane had gone to live with one of her two older sisters who were not living with their father and step mother at Ynysybwl. And my grandfather must have followed her.
This has made discovering my mother's side of the family all the more rewarding.
Kind regards
Chris
