Alexander and Alice McKAY nee GREEN
« on: Monday 21 September 09 03:04 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone else has an Alexander McKAY or Alice GREEN in their family tree?
He married Alice GREEN in 1876 and had at least two children:
John born 1879
Alice born 1886

Alice GREENs father was George GREEN. Mother unknown.
Alice may have had a brother David Thomas GREEN born c1877 who was placed into the Kohimarama Industrial School then into the Auckland Lunetic Asylum.

They also lived in Freemans Bay,, Auckland around 1888.

Alexander, Alice and George all had connections to the City of Glasgow mines.

Any information is very much appreciated.

Hi

Hmm  ... so David Thomas GREEN would have been just 2 years older than Alice McKAY's son John.   Huh

Do you know who the McKAY children, John and Alice, married ?

Hi Lu

Thank you for your reply.

George GREEN passed away in 1893 at the age of 78 and according to his death certificate his youngest child was born in 1882!!
He was going by the surname ISHERWOOD when he died and David Thomas was admitted into the Lunatic Asylum under the name Thomas GREEN/ISHERWOOD.

I haven't been able to locate exactly who John and Alice married as their names are so common.

From what I have been able to find in hospital records George GREEN lived in Tauranga, Paeroa and Thames.

Thanks again

Hi Belinda

Hmm  ... bit of a puzzle huh ?

Are you working forward in this McKAY search ... instead of backwards from their known children ?

Do you have death records for Alexander and Alice (nee GREEN) McKAY ?

Where did this couple live ?

What was Alexander's occupation ?

Had a look in Thames Vol of the Hills index but couldn't see anything connected to the Mckay/Mackay or Green families that matched.
Did though see that Alexander F McKay had a son before your Green marriage, so that eiminates that name quoted above.
