I've found a christening record on IGI which looks very likely to be my GGG grandmother.

Merinda Louisa COLCLOUGH (variously Marinda, Miranda etc.) was christened at St John Burlsem  26 Feb 1815, parents William COLCLOUGH and Selina. Marinda married Abner BENTLEY 21 Oct 1839 at St Peter, Stoke-upon-Trent (FreeBMD Dec 1839 Stoke T XVII 221).

I've ordered their marriage certificate, but in the meantime can anyone see William and Selina in the 1841 and 1851 censuses?

Thanks Cat - that's great.

The only marriage of a William Colclough and Selina that I could find on IGI was for Selina GLADE b. Marylebone - so having her place of birth recorded as London on the census return fits quite nicely.

What is the 'J' in the 1841 return marked against William and Elizabeth?

The "J" after the occupation stands for "journeyman". The Y or N in the 1841 census stands for Yes born in county or No not born in county
