Thank you all for your efforts on my behalf, you are right Claire, Elizabeth Bootes was William Cook´s mother. 
Just a little more detail for Sarah Jane Cook, William Cook´s wife:
Sarah Jane Brown married Joseph James Pow 1857 in Leeds Yorkshire England.
The family emigrated to America in 1886 and lived in Bridgeport Fairfield Connecticut until Joseph died in 1897.
After Joseph Pow´s death Sarah Pow moved to Ontario by 1899 when she married William Cook.
Any more information about the Cook family and/or Pow family would be welcome, eg:
When did the Cook family emigrate, are there early Canadian passenger lists on-line 
Why did Sarah move to Ontario after Joseph Pow died??

Link to the 1852 census of Canada West (Ontario) where you will find George, Elizabeth and William Cook in Dover Township, Kent County. On the 1901 census if you look at the image (also at this link) it states the emmigration year. It seems the Cook family came over in 1850. As to motivation for the move to another country - can you locate any children or other relations on the 1901 census that she might have moved to live with? Other than that.........

As Dover is near Detroit and Ontario Sarah Jane Pow could have visited her relation Cecelia Pow? (I never knew about her)
