1841 Census - James AYNSLEY COMPLETED THANKS
« on: Monday 21 September 09 15:03 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Please could some one give me the details for James and, hopefully, his wife and family.

The address should be Honeymead (Farm?) Exford and I'm hoping he is either in farming or maybe gamekeeping.

He went to Devon after 1833 and by 1842 he was back in Northumberland.

Thanks

Hello,

Can you give asny idea of his age and maybe some other members of the family? The only obvious one at the moment was born around 1801 and is a farm bailiff in Brendon, Devon. Wife's name Dorothy.

I've had a quick look at 1851, 40  and I think that the family I have found in 1841 could be yours so here are their details.

HO107/245/2/Cranscombe

James Aynsley, 40 Farm Bailiff
Dorothy, 30
Thomas, 9
James, 6
John, 3
George, 1
Francis Coulson, 30 Agri Servant
martha Ellis, FS
None born in county

Hope this helps,

Hi

James was born abt 1799 in Gt Bavington, Northumberland.

His wife was called Dorothy b.abt 1808 and he had a son Thomas born in Northumberland in 1833.

I don't know whether they went to Devon with him or why he went in the first place, presumably for the job. I'm hoping the census will give me more of an idea!

The one I have found looks promising then, doesn't it? Is this the same James who is Master of Workhouse in 1851?

Thank you very much.

I'm sure it is them.

Farm Baliff sounds a bit grim and yes, he did become the Workhouse Master in Bellingham went he went back. Makes you wonder what he was like as a person!

Devon seems a long way from Northumberland
