Hi Karen
They came back before their son was born - see my reply #12 but they're not Ken's family.

Interesting point, but it could be a red herring.
Elizabeth Jane's sister Agnes Wilson sailed to USA 1877 from Avonmouth, Bristol. At some stage she married William Hawley from Syracuse, USA. the 1880 census for USA shows Agnes and William Hawley to be in Bigson County Minnestota. The name has been transcribed as Hanly or could be Hauly, the ages match up and William's background also matches up, their daughter Sadie Agnes Hawley was born Dec 1880 in Minnesota.

I think I've found the Woodman/Woodmass's return to England:
Arrived 8 June 1891 Montreal to Liverpool on the Circassian
Wm H Woodman (labourer) , aged 40 and Eliza Woodman, aged 38 (wife)
This age is more in line with Elizabeth Jane's

It's not on the ship's list but if they're the same ones that I found on the 1901 (Reply#12), he was from Alston in Cumberland and she was from Ashby, Lincolnshire.

Yes, I know - that's why I've said in a few of the postings that this couple aren't yours. I don't think your Elizabeth married William Woodman/mass
Where did you find the original reference.

Ken ~
We have to eliminate all 'cases' until we find the correct one.
I've checked for marriages and deaths for your Elizabeth in England and Canada (including just using her first name and b. Yorkshire) but I don't see her at all at the moment.
I'm wondering if she did go to Canada.

Hello Gadget. It really is an enigma, if she stayed in the Uk who did she marry? From 1858 to 1865 I know she lived in Darley Abbey, Derby and she had many cousins living there ( here uncle Joseph Wilson arrived here in 1854 with his family and his brother Aaron joined him in 1857- 1865 they are all listed on the 1861 census). Perhaps she had a childhood sweetheart and came back to the area. As I could not find a death or marriage for her, I assumed that she might well have joined the other sisters in canada. Hey Ho! that is family tree for you, for every answer there is 20 questions.
Regards Ken

The marriage at Beaver Mines was between William Hall Woodmass s/o Frederick Hall and Mary Ann Woodmass and Elizabeth Jane Wilson d/o Charles and Ameilia Wilson. Thomas Wilson one of the witnesses. Definite proof she's not the one you're looking for.

Hello Debbie, many thanks for clearing that one up, I can now take William Hall Woodmass out of the equation and see if Elizabeth Jane emigrated to the USA. On the other hand, perhaps she never emigrated and stayed in the Uk and is numerated as just Elizabeth Wilson or Eliza. Are there passenger lists available pre 1890?
Many thanks everyone for your input and your time
Regards Ken

Hi Debbie
Could you tell us the source please, because the entry that I found In the Ontario Marriage entries had no mention of parents, etc.- just what I put up at the beginning.
