If he was CofE then the Northfleet registers are online at CityArk.

No index though, you will need to go through the images one by one.
The JEWISS name is quite prevalent in the Gravesend registers.

I notice that the witnesses to Simon's marriage (I assume it is this one) at All Saints Poplar, Middlesex 4 Jun 1837 (both of this parish) were Hagar and Thomas JEWISS - there is a Hagar (parents William & Sarah) on the IGI http://www.familysearch.org 1812 Gravesend independant.
Have you looked through all the registers for both Gravesend and Northfleet about that time on cityark?

Hi Bambi
The baptism of Hagar JEWISS is on the IGI as baptised 5 Aug 1812 (born 4 Jul 1812) at Princes St Independant Chapel, Gravesend, Kent dau of William & Sarah JEWISS. The marriage of Simon & Mary didn't come from the IGI but from the parish registers
Simon JEWISS of this parish bachelor Mary Ann BEST of this parish spinster banns 4 Jun 1837 All Saints Poplar Wit: Hagar JEWISS, Thomas JEWISS
14 Nov 1838 St Marylebone, Middlesex by banns Henry MORRISON of full age bachelor oil man of Edward Street, P. Square (Thomas MORRISON marine) Hagar JEWISS of full age spinster of Edward Street, P. Square (William JEWISS smith deceased) Wit: Sarah JEWISS & Robert DODD
Assuming that Hagar was a relative and she was baptised in a non-conformist chapel I wonder if the family were non-conformist hence the absence of Simon's baptism in the parish registers?

Pauline - This is Meredith, I just thought I'd post here in case we could get some additional feedback.
Casalguidi - I've been helping Pauline with this question. Simon is my 4xgreat grandfather.
Your comments were helpful about the marriage btw Simon and Mary Ann including names of the witnesses. I've actually been able to find a personal site with information about a Thomas and Hagar Jewiss - they were siblings, the children of William Jewiss and Sarah Hagan.
http://www.reap.org.nz/~chris/jewisswm1770.html
On the main Jewiss page of the same site, this William Jewiss is listed as the son of John Jewiss and Susanna Alchin. He has several siblings, including a John Jewiss b. 1766. John Jewiss's third child with Ann Still, Thomas Jewiss, married Mary Stone in Northfleet in 1808. The marriage appears in the CityArk records. There are several children born to the couple in Northfleet over the next 8 years according to the baptism records (I think I found one more than Richard, Mary Ann, Jane, and Christina listed on this website). The last name seems to appear as "Jewifs" in most CityArk parish register entries. Perhaps Simon is also the son of Thomas Jewiss and Mary Stone? I searched page by page and found nothing resembling Simon "Jewifs" for the period of 1808-1817, however.

If this is how Simon fits into the picture, Hagar would be some sort of cousin (his grandfather's brother's daughter). Thomas listed as witness could either be Simon's father, Hagar's brother, or some other relative.
Any thoughts? Thanks!
