Theresa TRAGHEIN m Cornelius O'DRISCOLL 1935 St Patrick's Montreal
« on: Wednesday 23 September 09 08:56 UTC (UK) »

I have recently been told by a kind respondent to an earlier posting on rootsweb that Cornelius O'DRISCOLL son of Jeremiah O'DRISCOLL & the late Julia ALLEN married Theresa TRAGHEIN daughter of the late George TRAGHEIN & Mary SHERIDAN in 1935 in St Patrick's, Montreal.

Julia ALLEN was my great aunt born in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Ireland in 1876. She married Jeremiah [born in Clonakilty, Co Cork] in Dublin in 1906. She had come to Quebec in 1913 aboard the SS Teutonic with children Mary aged 7, Edmund aged 4 & Cornelius aged 1. I do not know if Jeremiah had travelled to Canada earlier, later or at all.

I would be really interested to find any descendants of Cornelius & Theresa [and Mary & Edmund although I do not yet know their spouses names]. Any help, infomation or details of resources to search will be gratefully received.

Many thanks, Josey

Julia Allan, wife of Jeremiah O'Driscoll died 17 June 1930 and her burial was witnessed by Jeremiah and Cornelius O'Driscoll.  Jeremiah is noted as a garcon de table (waiter?).  St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, Montreal.

There is also a death of Edward O'Driscoll on 19 May 1941.  He is of the St. Thomas Aquinas Parish and husband of Mary Hutchison.  Burial witnessed by Edmund and Cornelius Leo O'Driscoll.  Not sure exactly how he fits into your family picture.

There is also the birth of M.L.C. O'Driscoll on 4 Nov 1922 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish.  Legitimate son of Edmund O'Driscoll and Mary Elizabeth Hutchison.  Sponsor were Charles Caulfield and Mrs. Charles Caulfield.  This part of the record is fuzzy but it seems to indicate she is sister to Edmund.  I couldn't find a marriage for Edmund, Mary or Mary Elizabeth or Charles.

My mistake.  Didn't do the math for the age of Edmund.  Obviously he is not the father of M.L.C. but perhaps this child is actually the son of Edward O'Driscoll who died in 1941 and is a cousin to the children of Julia and Jeremiah.

I found a Jeremiah O'Driscoll aged 52 passenger on SS Samaria New York/Boston - Liverpool Nov 1930, intending to reside on Co Cork. Perhaps this is 'my' Jeremiah who went back to Ireland permanently or temporarily after Julia died?

Yes, perhaps Edward died 1941 was brother to Jeremiah.

All helps to knock down the wall... and it all resulted from a reply this morning to a posting to rootsweb some time ago which someone found. How helpful the genealogy community are.

Thanks.

Have I got this right?

It appears that Jeremiah O'Driscoll had a brother Edward - probably younger as he was father to a 1922 child - who married Mary Elizabeth Hutchinson, had a son in 1922 & died in 1941; and a sister Mary who married Charles Caulfield. So Mrs Charles Caulfield is Mary O'Driscoll the sister of Edward [not Mary Ann O'Driscoll daughter of Jeremiah & Julia].

The fact that Corneilius and Edmund were witnesses at Edward's burial suggests a relationship to Edward - but what it is is questionnable as there are other O'Driscoll families in Quebec records.  But it does look like Edward had a sister Mary who married a Caulfield.
