Hello everyone,
My interest in my G,G,G Grandfather Walter Bell is to find the baptisms of his children in Cumberland; Walter & James.
These are the facts from the 1841 Census for; Toler Lane, in the township of Rickergate.
Walter Bell, Head, aged 40 working as a stonemason, born in Scotland Margaret Bell, Wife, aged 40, born in Scotland James Bell, Son, aged 5, born in Cumberland John Aitken, Father-in-law, aged 75, born in Scotland
Also on the same road in a different household on Toler Lane is a Walter Bell, aged 15, also born in Cumberland working as an apprentice stonemason.
My theory of Walter, aged 15, is that because there may have been no room at his fathers house because of his Grandfather being there. Also the fact that this Walter was an apprentice stonemason, perhaps to his father Walter.
Any help of these two baptisms would be of great help.
Regards Charles

Hi Charles
Do you have them on the 1851 census? That would give more precisely where they were born, and make the baptism easier to pin down. I don't have Ancestry just now or I'd look.
Best wishes

Hi Emms,
On the 1851 Census; Walter Bell is working as an 'surveying stonemason' living in Bothwell, Lanarkshire. Walter was born in Annan 1799
Walter's wife Margaret (nee Aitken) was also living in Bothwell. Margaret Aitken was born in Hutton and Corrie in 1796
James, their son aged 15 was living with his parents in Bothwell as an 'Pupil teacher'. This Census for James states he was born in England (Cumberland), James would have been born in 1836.
As for Walter Bell, the 'stonemason apprentice' born in Cumberland, in 1826, he seems to have dissapeared and cannot find him on the 1851 Census.
Regards and thanks for the help
Charles

Hi Charles
Sorry, I was being slow. I was thinking if they'd been in England in 1851, we's have got a more exact birthplace, but of course they weren't so we just get Cumberland again.
I'll have a think.
Best wishes
Emms
