« on: Thursday 24 September 09 10:29 UTC (UK) »

I have this German  baptism entry - 1764  and I have trouble to decipher (THE RED CROSS)
I understood that JULIANA might have been illigitimate daughter .. I don'"t understand the cross on the top

Who can help Huh?

ps- It's probably the parish of  Untermünstherthal

Thanks in advance for ANY hints

I've been trying to find how is the 'typical' german baptism entry from this period (1760's) without success  Sad

I think there are three different entries (line markings). Looks like Bernardus  is the illegitimate child and the mother died in childbirth. To the right there is ? Laurentien, who would be the god parent

I have some Baptisms from 1626 and from memory  (I am on holidays and have nothing with me ) it goes  - date - child's name and then father's name (no name for mother) and then god parents.

Had another look, is it possible that the baby died and that the Laurentien bit is something in Latin.

Hi Gwenn,

Could you post an other extract with the first line?
I don't understand if the child is Bernardus or Juliana or both...

The child is illegitimate and seams to be deceased.

Bernardus +
Maria Juliana Illegitima sub conditione

The parents are:
Joannes SCHNEIDER filius Martini SCHNEIDER ab dem Ziegel...
Verena GUETHMANNin

John SCHNEIDER son of Martin from Ziegel...
Verena GUETHMANN

Patr.:
Dominicus RIESTERER, ab dem Hoff
Catharina LEYLERin Hasengrund

Patrinus=godfather
Matrina=godmother
Par.=Parentes=parents

Bernardus could be the name of the priest who baptized the child Juliana...
The first line could be important  Wink
