Can anyone help me as i have hit a brick wall!!
I am trying to gain information about Harbottle Clennell, Morpeth Northumberland,
My grandfather and G grandfather were living there in the 1940's I believe my g grandfather was a gamekeeper at the time.
his name was Walter Inglis and his wife was Kate.  The house may have been called Roans Green.
Any help would be great

Sharon,

Just adding snippets to that provided by JoHunter.....

Although yours is a modern question, my background info is from 1800s and before.

The "ancient" parish of Alwinton, lay in north-west Northumberland. The parish was comprised of 16 "townships". ( These parish sub-divisions, "townships",  are not to be confused with the modern-day concept of  a township)

Harbottle, the village and the area around it, was one of Alwinton's townships.
( within this township was Harbottle Castle- once owned by the Clennell family
To see this... -go to  communities.northumberland,gov.uk   choose Rothbury Community, select "Printed Material" from left hand menu... choose Pigot's Trade Directory for 1834

Clennell/Clennel also was one of Alwinton's townships. Within the township of Clennell, lay Clennell community and smaller collections of dwellings called Clennell Street and Clennell Cottages. And maybe more ?

Clennell Farm in modern terms is at Post Code NE65 7BG.

Villages/towns nearby are Thropton, Rothbury. Morpeth is quite distant from Harbottle/Clennell. Morpeth is probably added as part of Harbottle's modern  "postal address" rather than it's " geographic" address. ( If I was approaching Harbottle from the north I would go nowhere near Morpeth)

Sharon, Is it just the building/cottage you are interested in ?

On the 1901 census ( page 4849-25-2) Walter and Isabella Inglis in Middleton Hall area had a 5 yr old son Walter ( and several other children) .

In 1877 a Walter Inglis probably married an Isabella Grey ( registered in Dec Quarter of Bellingham Registration District)

In 1927 a Walter E Inglis married a Grace Reay (marraige registered within the Hexham Registration District)
