Patrick WHITE 1798 - Information Please Completed Thanks
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 15:18 UTC (UK) »

Hello,
I am trying to find any information on Patrick White, he was baptized in Willington Bedfordshire 8 April 1798, son of John White & Elizabeth Hardwick, he may have immigrated to America but unable to find any record of him after this baptism date. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated

Presumably you have a possible Patrick White in the US? What else do you know about him? Children, wife, censuses, emigration date etc

There's no burial of a Patrick White in Beds, nor can I see a marriage. Nor can I see him in any census in England

Thank you David for your reply. No i have no other record of Patrick at all. Thats why i thought he may have gone to another country. However I have found a record of a Frederick White in Water End Cople in 1841 census  and have followed him through to his death cert in 1877, I have also on order marriage cert for one of his sons to see what name is on that. But apart from that i'm stumped.

I can't see Frederick White's baptism in Willington, and Patrick was more an Irish name than a rural Beds name.  The baptism entry for Patrick is taken from the transcript done by Bedford Records Office which compared the parish register with the bishops' transcript. I would be tempted to check the microfilm to see what you think yourself - PatRICK/FredeRICK might be a transcription error, but more likely could be the parish clerk mishearing the name or misreading his notes when he wrote up the entry.

Who were the witnesses on Frederick's marriage?

Hi David, I have e-mailed Beds Record Office this morning to see if they will find the marriage between Frederick & Mary in Cople or Willington, as Mary's place of birth on 1851 census is Cople.
As i haven't been able to find a baptism for Frederick it seems to me that it may well be an error, but i did ask BRO to check this a few months ago and they were adamant that the record is for a Patrick White, but looking at 1841 census all apart from one Patrick White were born in  Ireland and the other one was Scotland.
Think i will try and get to Records Office and ask to check microfilm    Many thanks  Bunnygirl

The marriage is on the IGI - Frederick White/Mary Warden at Cople on 8 Jan 1819. You need to view the microfilm to see if the witnesses provide a clue

It will probably come down to a judgment call - I think there's every chance that Patrick and Frederick are the same person

Pity, a couple of Frederick/Patrick's siblings would have been useful as witnesses! Now it really is a judgment call, unless John White left a will naming all his children. I've never been that lucky!
