Admiral Edward Durnford KING mystery
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 15:56 UTC (UK) »

Hi

I found my Green ancestors living and working for a Edward D King in 1851 in prestbury Cheltenham.

(although his surname is spelt HING)

A Thomas W Green who I thought was my ancestor b1835 Shipton Wiltshire is put as Edwards son (not Josephs as I thought) do you think this could be an error?

Only I cant read the census writing very clearly.

The reference is HO 107 / 1972

the original page seems OK.

correct full refn: - HO107; Piece: 1972; Folio: 46; Page: 13

The Greens were in service to Edward King, a RN Admiral on Half Pay.

Joseph Green is a Servant - Gardener, then it lists his wife and 3 sons - so the relationship is clearly intended to be to Joseph, not to the Head of Household - Edward King.

Joseph Green was the gardener and his son James was a Footman to Edward.  Glad we've cleared up that confusion ;o)
