earsdon monumental inscriptions
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 18:57 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know if the gravestones at Earsdon have been recorded and if so where can I consult a transcription?

Also I am looking for the death/burial place of Thomas Davis a miner working in area around  Seghill and Cowpen, who died between 1845 and 1851. I have not found his death registration  but his wife is a widow on 1851 census.Which churches should I try for his burial?

Would appreciate suggestions!

Hi,

I'm not aware of any Mis for Earsdon either.  If he died in Seghill then the church would more than likely be Earsdon, if he died in Cowpen then I'd be looking at Horton.

The bishops transcripts for Horton go up to 1856 and can be found here

You have to search page by page and I'd start at the back and work forward for this one.  Alas the Earsdon bt's only go to 1844  Cry

Hi
If he is buried at St Mary the Virgin,Horton, then there is no visable headstone. I have photographs of all available gravestones. If he is buried at St Albans,Earsdon, he may have a headstone but given the state of the place it is unlikely you will ever find it. Again I have photographs of all available gravestones ( in the process of transcribing them). A trip to woodhorn would be the best option. It is rare for the family of a miner who did not die as a result of an accident at work to be able to afford a headstone.
