Look up request for Louth Rifles
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 21:58 UTC (UK) »

Has anyone got a copy of Brendan Hall`s book on The Louth Militia 1854 - 1876.

I am trying to find out when Lt. Col. Charles Edward McClintock served with the regiment. He is a descendant of the Drumcar McClintocks but resided in Crumlin County Antrim from c1870 until his death in 1921 aged 77.

I have seen the second book covering the period from 1877 - 1908.

Any info would be much appreciated.

James,
I wrote the book a few years ago and given half a chance would re-write again! The information I took on the officers was taken from Thoms Directory (in the National Library of Ireland), which was published every year. C.E. McClintock was a Lieutenant in the Louth Rifles from 1868 to 1873. He was promoted Captain in either 1874 or 1875.

Brendan

Many thanks for your reply which is most helpful.

I live in Randalstown County Antrim and had difficulty obtaining a copy of the first Book.  However I did manage to borrow through our local Library service the second book.

Charles McClintock`s obituary states that he served in the 6th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles - the old Louth Militia - and retired with the rank of Lieut. Colonel.

His grave is adjacent to the McClintock mausoleum in Drumcar Cemetery.

Many of these officers were given honorary military titles when they retired, above their actual rank. This was possibly the case with C.E. McClintock. Brendan
