(COMPLETED) DAVEY Census
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 23:13 UTC (UK) »

Just started on a new family line, and was wondering if there was a census for a William and Mary Davey.
William Thorn Davey born about 1807 and his wife Mary Coles born abt 1810, both Somerset.

Also his son Beadon Davey born abt 1827, I have the 1841 census, is there one for 1851 and 1861?
With such a strange name as Beadon would there also be a record of his baptism?  No luck on the I.G.I

Regards

Not 100% sure, this is where things at a little sketchy.
All I know is Beadons parents were a William Davey (maybe Thorn for middle name) and Mary nee Coles not Cole.
Still have to hunt down their marriage.
Is that right with the ages?  William 46 and Mary 62.

I don't think that 1851 census entry for William & Mary is the right couple as they were both born in Devon - not Somerset - as were their children.  They are on the 1841 census in Barnstaple but no Beadon

Unfortunately - this is the 1841 for Beadon - no parents - living in Nether Stowey and all are shown as "born in county" (ie) Somerset

Charles Davey 20
Isaac 15
Beadon 12

The entry immediately above has

Robert Coles 25
Mary Coles 40

Further down the same page is

John Davey 55
Mary 60
John 25
Richard 20
John Coles 20
Mary 45
HO107 Piece 966/12 Folio 12 Page 17

Do you have a copy of Beadon's marriage cert confirming his father was William

Now you have thrown the cat among the pigeons.  The information about William Davey I got was via another researcher.  I have put together the later generations o.k.
Shipping records and the NZ BMD confirms Beadon Davey, and the book "White Wings" has a written account of their journey.
Beadon may of been a family name, and Charles a brother of William, there is no Charles is later generations in New Zealand.  But there are Williams, Mary's and Beadon's.
Beadon married 11 July 1848 at the Parish School, Nether Stowey.  Sorry I have not much more to go on after that date.

Cheers

Hi

I never trust other peoples research of my own family.

As you already know - there is no record of a baptism on the IGI etc for Beadon so how has the other researcher got the info that his parents were William Thorn Davey and Mary Coles?

Do NZ death certs show parents names?  If not - mothers names are not shown on English marriage certs and there is no IGI marriage for a William Davey/Mary Coles.  If the info did not come from his death cert - I would be asking questions

The 1841 Charles Davey was only 20yrs old so far more likely to be Beadon's brother than his uncle but there is no IGI entry that fits either Isaac or Charles profile

Unless the other researcher already has it - a copy of Beadon's marriage cert is needed

Yes very true, that is why I am a bit stuck at this point.  Looks as a marriage cert has to be ordered, who would think there were so many Coles and Daveys out there.

seems to be few Beadons. the criminal records on ancestry have Beadon Davey,  age 15. trial date 15th oct, 1844 acquittal. and Beadon Davey trial date 6th jan, 1857, imprisonment. [ just deleted my  duplicate posting]
