John HARRISON:
If we accept the IGI references to birth of Eliza Harrison, and earlier marriage of John to Maria Pratchett, then we have this, and from his history as a licensee, we have this so far.
If the John Harrison who died in 1823 is your man, then he was possibly baptised 6 November 1774 in Portsea, son of George & Mary Harrison.
He married Maria Pratchett at St. Mary’s Portsea on 20th March, 1801,(Little Nell has her doubts)
He was in the George Tavern on 30th August,1805, where no doubt Eliza Harrison was born before 26th April, 1807,  the King’s Arms on 13th September, 1819, out of it on 26th January, 1820, but at the Keppel’s Head by 25th September, 1820, and dead 22nd May, 1823.

Thanks Tom,

I'm impressed ... yes, that's about where I am upto, but I cannot figure out how to get from John Harrison, probably the son of George and Mary in HARTS over to KENT where in 1824 John Harrison, a widower, married Susannah Bowles Temple... and afterall, its John Harrison and Susannah Bowles Temple whose names appear on the NSW death certificate as parents for Edward Temple Harrison, with his widow, Keziah nee Ledicott and two living sons... (one named Edward Temple Harrison - 3rd generation by that name, and the other Aubrey Temple Harrison, this son was born in New York USA)...

The 1824 marriage in Kent was for John Harrison, a widower, draper... and I'm sure (although I do not have a copy of that certificate) that the witnesses were members of the Bowles orTemple family...

It makes sense to me that John Harrison, a draper of 50 Queen St Ramsgate may have procured materials etc from John Ledicott of 25 The Common Hard, Portsea as from John Ledicott's will (he died 1846) he had a lot of property and also several commercial operations...

However, the John Harrison at Ramsgate .... I do not have birth or death information despite many years of searching... some dating back to pre internet times...   He's quite elusive...  Sad

Hence my searching here on the HARTS thread for any clues as to Mrs Elizabeth Harrison, knowing that I had oral history about how John Ledicott's youngest daughter (Keziah) met her husband (Edward Temple Harrison)... as children in Portsea...  Wink

I know that my elderly cousins really do appreciate the time and effort you and Nell are giving me, and so to do I...  Very special THANKS...

Still waiting for the email back from Portsmouth Council following up on their reference number for my questions  Smiley

Many many thanks,

I forgot to add, and I should add this, as it supports the information Nell supplied....

The email noted

The present Kingston Cemetery was opened to replace the churchyard round the Portsea parish church of St. Mary, also known as Kingston Church.  The large new cemetery is at the other end of St. Mary's Road from the churchyard and is still in use.  The churchyard, however, is now largely clear of tombstones and has been for some years.  I have been unable to find any publication giving inscriptions.

MANY THANKS.....  Nell,  I will leave it to you to decide when to COMPLETE with MY THANKS and move the thread, but I think it is ready to move, once Tom has had the opportunity to read through and offer his comments....

We seem to so near yet to far. It's been great fun, perhaps someone else will be able to crack it for us.
