*COMPLETED Thank you* Look Up Request Please, Isabella Stokoe, c. 1766, Lamesley
« on: Friday 25 September 09 17:28 UTC (UK) »

I wonder if someone could help me please. I'm looking for any birth or baptismal details for Isabella Stokoe, born Lamesley around 1766.

From her marriage details on 10 April 1790, Lamesley, I have her father as being a John Stokoe.

Any information on Isabella or her parents or siblings would be very much appreciated.  Smiley

Hi jeffery

I can find a baptism for an Isabel Stoker child of John baptized 8th Nov 1867 at Lamesley.
And a Marriage for an Isable Stoker to a Thomas Liddell on the 10th of April 1790 at Lamesley. The marriage comes from the George Bell collection via Genuki. The George Bell collection is very well respected as being the best transcription of parish records.

Added: The best marriage I could find for a John Stokoe/Stoker was John Stokoe & Elizabeth Stafford on the 15th Dec 1764 at Whickham.

Hi Jeffery

Just to add food for thought the NBI lists a few Stokoe's buried at St Andrews, Lamesley. Prehaps the 2 most interesting ones are Elizabeth buried 3 of Feb 1792 & John buried 27 Jan 1797 no age listed for either.Isabella's parents perhaps. It might be worth a look through the Bishops Transcripts.

Hi Jeffery

Did your Isabella marry a Thomas Liddell?. If so then I have a photograph of the gravestone.

That's amazing! She most certainly did - they married 10th April 1790 in Lamesley.  Shocked

I believe Thomas may have died around 1849, but that is not definite.

If it's possible, I would love to see the photo please? How did you come by it?

Hi Gary,

I was amazed to learn you have a photo of Isabella and Thomas' gravestone.

I know I have quite a few ancestors from Lamesley and I expect there's probably quite a few of them in the graveyard there;

  - John Stokoe was identified as Isabella's father on the baptismal records of 2 of Isabella's childen,
Mary and Isabel. However, I have no other information on him or his wife - other than the possible
lead you gave me on a John and Eliz's burial in Lamesley, which may well be her parents.

  - John Liddell (1791-1878, Lamesley) and his wives Ruth (nee Richey, don't know when she was
born, but died 1837 I believe?), Maximelliene Louise (nee Babbage). I believe they all died in
    Lamesley.

There may even be some of the Collin(s) family there, but I can't be certain on that one.

If it's at all possible for you to send me a copy of the photo, I'd be very, very grateful. I've sent you a PM with my e-mail address.

Thanks so much.  Smiley

I have just checked my records and I do believe that John and Elizabeth Stokoe may well be her parents.

Thomas and Isabella had 11 children whom I have identified so far. Interestingly, their first 4 children (in order) were called John, Ann, Isabella and Elizabeth.

Hi Jeffery

Good news for you I also have John Liddell's gravestone as well. I have no connection with the family. I photograph and transcribe gravestones as a hobby. I photographed all available gravestones at St Andrews, Lamesley ( still in the process of transcribing them, so there could be more for you).  I will email you both photographs.

Just wanted to let you know that both photos arrived safely - they are marvelous. Thank you so much!

The additional information which can be gleaned from the gravestones is invaluable and somehow, actually seeing their gravestone adds a touch of reality to it all.

You have made my weekend - I certainly never expected to obtain images of actual gravestones!

Thanks again.......... Cheesy
