George Dickinson 1841 Census - COMPLETE
« on: Saturday 26 September 09 21:39 UTC (UK) »

George Dickinson
born Saxilby 1823 (or at least christened 2/11/1823 IGI)

Left Lincolnshire to go to Pontefract in Yorkshire where he married Mary McKenzie (of Pontefract) in 1847.

I cannot find him in 1841, he is not with his parents (William and Jane), who by this time are in Reepham.

There's a 20 year old George Dickinson, Ag Lab, living Saxilby.

If we can believe the rounded ages in the 1841 census, he would more likely be the one bap in 1817 at Saxilby.

Just a hint - I copied the spelling of the Civil Parish of SaxElby the way it had been detailed, but the page itself says Saxilby.  So just search in Lincolnshire and you'll find it.

My George married Mary McKenzie in Pontefract in 1847 (i have a copy of the certificate), on which his father is listed as William Dickinson. The George Dickinson of 1817 has parents as Robert and Sarah.

Also successive census returns for 1851, 1861 and now 1841 match this aging within the odd year.

So I think I have the right one as 1823

I dare say you have.  What I was saying is that someone whose age was given as 20 in 1841 ought to have been born 1816-21.  Someone born late in 1823 would be aged 17 at the time of the census and their age ought to have beeen given as 15. Smiley
