Hi Rosie
Aaha so he reverted to using his own surname - shame I wonder if there are family looking for them in the other census returns??
Rosie thanks so much for all your help with this, gosh I would have (as I have done) gone thru life thinking that Lionel and George were Palmers.   I often wondered why my grandfather got the clock!!  Now we know....must just let my brother know about this twist ....
What is/was The Royal Hospital school - was he sick or was he studying for medicines?
thanks

Hi Delva

There are several pages about the Royal Hospital School Greenwich  if you search it in go**gle  for example  http://www.portcities.org.uk/london/server/show/ConNarrative.148/chapterId/3058/The-Royal-Hospital-for-Seamen-Greenwich-A-Refuge-for-All.html

I wonder whether George remained a Hough  Huh

Hi Rosie,
thk for that website address  had a look and I think we can assume that Lionel def became a sailor!
As for George have been going into different genealogy websites with no luck but someone is or was doing some tracing on George as LDS site has his birth details submitted by a private individual.   Maybe one day....who knows?
Thanks again to all the trouble you went to with helping me, I really do appreciate it.

Hi Delva

Shame we can't find Lionel after 1891.   Huh

I was pleased to be able to help - sorry it's wet there today, it's been sunny here today but is now getting a chill in the air.

Hi Rosie
Still working on this wing of the family.   Can I possibly ask you a favour?
Are you able to access the 1851 census?   Could you try and trace JOHN PALMER in Alverstoke and let me know who is part of the family?
Many thanks
