Thomas Barrow Holmfirth/ Hepworth
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 16:26 UTC (UK) »

I have a Thomas Barrow who must of been born approx 1780 in Holmfirth area.   He married a Martha  no surname and no date unfortunatley.   They had Hannah in 1804 and a George in 1808 .  Both baptised Holmfirth Wesleyan .  I can find no more about him. Can you find any baptism that would fit?   Thanks wendy.

Can't  help directly I'm afraid but have you tried posting on curiousfox?

Also try the Huddersfield Family History Society which has parish records on microfiche with some transcribed - they might cover Holmfirth.

Hi Josey, Thanks for your message sorry for not replying sooner but have been away.
I am already a member of Hudds and district family history soc.  but unfortunately they haven't got anything  for Holmfirth nor do they have baptisms for Hepworth area,
I may try curious fox  anything is worth a try I haven't had any luck using it before.

Did you get any further with this, Wendy? I live near Holmfirth, so if I can be of any help, pm me. I presume you have tried West Yorkshire Achives, although the Huddersfield FHS would probably have all the relevant records.

According to IG film C086111, as well as Thomas/Martha there were several other Barrow families having children baptised between 1795 & 1808 at the Holmfirth Wesleyan - Josh/Mary, Joseph[may be the same as Josh]/Mary, John/Elizabeth & Philip [no wife given]. Also C086101 there is a Thomas & Elizabeth having children baptised 1787 - 1791 at Lane Independent. Might any of these be related to your family? I see too that the baptism of George in 1808 only has Martha Barrow named - do you think Thomas had died by then?

Do you know for sure Thomas was baptised in the Holmfirth/Hepworth area? Probably irrelevant but IGI film I02224 shows a Thomas Barrow & Martha Knowles marriage 3 Nov 1800 in Runcorn Cheshire; film C105962 shows a Thomas Barrow baptised 30 May 1779 with siblings William 4 Sep 1774 & John 10 Nov 1776 in Marten in Craven[East Martern near Skipton], Yorkshire all sons of George Barrow no wife named.

Hi Josey,
No I am afraid I have not made much headway,  I haven't tried west yorks achives .
I had found the others you mention from IGI from Holmfirth  but as yet haven't managed to fit them into the family!
I am assuming that Thomas married Martha  as I found a Hannah born 1804 with both parents named  and in 1808 just Martha is named for George.

As you say either Thomas died but as yet found no record  or he was in the army  or in jail  but have no evidence of these either.
I was assuming he was born in the area  but as yet  have no evidence.  I really need to find some parish records for the area.
Wendy.
