George BURGES - Salisbury / Fisherton Anger
« on: Sunday 27 September 09 20:19 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for a baptism and parents for a George Burges who married Mary Barnes at Fisherton Anger on 22 December 1768. George was buried at Fisherton Anger on 15 January 1817, aged 80.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to obtain any help from the OPC.

The family of George and Mary (Barnes) Burges is very much a mystery to me. They had at least the following children:

Mary - Baptised Fisherton Anger on 25 December 1769
Elizabeth - Baptised Fisherton Anger 26 December 1775 (born 9 July 1772)
Mary - Baptised Fisherton Anger 26 December 1775 (born 8 February 1775)
Sarah - Baptised Fisherton Anger 1 January 1778
George - Baptised Fisherton Anger 18 November 1781 (born 18 November 1781)
George - Baptised Fisherton Anger 29 February 1784 (born 31 December 1783)

The baptisms then stop. However, the RG4 3046 series of documents for St Edmunds Church Street (Methodist) are interesting in that baptisms for Mary, Martha, Richard and James Turner identify a Sarah Burges as their mother. They also state that Sarah was the daughter of George Burges and Mary Barnes. This Sarah died in Warminster on 28 October 1865, aged 77. This age plus the information from the 1841 - 1861 Censuses suggests she was born in Fisherton Anger or Salisbury between 1788 and 1790. There, therefore, appears to have been at least one further child after 1784.

My questions are, therefore, as follows:

1. Where was the father George Burges baptised and who were his parents?
2. Where was the first daughter, Mary Burges, buried?
3. What happened to Elizabeth?
4. Did the second Mary marry John Law at Fisherton Anger on 2 March 1791? If yes, what happened to them?
5. Where was the Sarah Burges baptised in 1778 buried?
6. Where was the first son, George, buried?
7. What happened to the second son, George?
8. Were there any other children after 1784 (apart from the second Sarah)?

I have been stuck with this family for rather a long time so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
