*Completed*Durham Burial Index
« on: Monday 28 September 09 02:05 UTC (UK) »

Fellow listers

I am looking for the burial of a James KIDD, a master-mariner from Hartlepool, who seems to have disappeared between 1852 (the birth of his first son) and 1857 (the re-marriage of his wife Frances Ann in Australia)

I don't know if there are any finding aids that might help, but I note from freebmd that a James KIDD died in the June Quarter of 1852 in the Stockton RD.

Is there any entry in the National Burial Index that might give further details?  Given his occupation as a mariner, of course, it is possible that he died at sea and has no known final resting place.

Any help would be very welcome.

Kind regards

Hello Philip

There is only one entry close enough to be the James Kidd you seek in the NBI and that is
James Kidd buried 3rd Jun 1852 aged 29 at Hartlepool St Hilda.

Added: looking at the 1851 census James & Frances are living in Hartlepool aged 28 & 18 respectively. NBI entry looks good.

Hi Gary

There aren't many certainties in this business, but this DOES look pretty promising, doesn't it?

This would help to explain why they only had one child; it would also fit with Frances remarrying so relatively soon.

I don't suppose there's a marriage register for Hartlepool St Hilda is there? James married Frances Ann SWAN in the March Quarter of 1850. I need to find their fathers' names in order to take the search back a further generation.

I really appreciate the lookup - thanks very much.

Kind regards

Hi Phil

There is only one year for hartlepool in the Bishops Transcripts  Sad
Unless some kind RootsChatter has access to the PRs/BTs then your best chance to get the fathers names would be to get the marriage certificate.

Thanks Gary

I'm actually helping out a colleague with this research, so I'm going to suggest that he orders the marriage certificate. That way he'll get the fathers of both partners.

I really appreciate your very quick response to my request.

Best wishes and thanks again.
