Macclesfield RYLEs
« on: Monday 28 September 09 03:52 UTC (UK) »

My late paternal grandmother (Doris Hetty RYLE 1903 - 1957) used to tell of 'The Bishop' coming to Sunday Tea, and of calling him 'Uncle'.  As he can't be J C Ryle (1816 - 1900), he is likely H E Ryle (1856 - 1925), Bishop of Exeter then Winchester and Dean of Westminster Abbey.  I don't believe he can have been a true Uncle, but likely a distant cousin.

I would appreciate any decendancy information for the Macclesfield Silk Family of John Ryle (1732 - 1808) to recent day.

There is good information on the Ryles who left Macclesfield to bring silk manufacture to the USA eg (John Ryle 1817 - 1887 - the Father of Silk in the USA) - although I haven't tied him to my 'other' Ryles of similar dates.

In particular, I suspect that my paternal Grandmother is probably the end of one line descended from Joshua Ryle (b. 13 Sep 1785) who was disowned upon his marriage to "a women of inferior rank" after which he moved to Southern England.

I am, of course, willing to share all that I have to others with similar interests.
