1861&71Census lookups Wright Family Liverpool
« on: Monday 28 September 09 09:10 UTC (UK) »

I would much appreciate having some help in locating information on some members of a family of Wrights who lived in Warwick St Toxteth Park (saw millers). The family comprised (in 1851) Samuel Wright (bn 1806), his wife Mary formerly Ward (bn 1806-8), Martha (bn ~1832), Samuel junior (bn~1835), Mary (bn~1837), Catherine (bn~1839) William (bn1843) and Thomas (bn ~1846).I would really like to know:
1) 1871 census: Where was Samuel Wright junior [married to Jemima F in 1861] and his brother Thomas and who were in their households?
2)1871 census: Catherine married John Hodgson, a Prof of Music in 1870 at West Derby. What was her household in 1871?
3) Martha and Mary - with such common names they are not easy to find. In 1861 Mary was unmarried, aged 24 & still at home. No sign of Martha. An 1861 census for Martha and 1871 for Martha &/or Martha would be marvellous, but may need to find a marriage record first.

Greatly appreciate any help with any bit of the above.   NSWelshwoman

For ease of finding them, I'm going to post the 1851 census together with their birthplaces.  Since some of them weren't born in Lancashire it might help, also occupations often do too.

There is a possible marriage for Martha to Joseph Whaley in St Michael, Toxteth Park, 1854, you would need to check the marriage certificate to confirm the father’s name before accepting it, but if it is correct

Another marriage certificate that would need to be checked
Mary Wright to William H Trant at St Michael Toxteth Park, 1862.  Gut feeling tells me that this might be right, going by the church Martha's marriage took place in, but also the age is right.

Don't forget to check the 1911 censuses, which is pay per view, but search some of the postings about it and you should find some hints about searching the indexes to try to get the best out of it and make sure you have the right family before you spend your money.

That's impressive MaryA.  Cheesy

Not to be outdone totally  Wink I found Samuel snr's death reported in the Liverpool Mercury, Friday, December 12, 1851.

Dec. 9, aged 45, Mr Samuel Wright, of Warwick Street saw-mills, formerly chief engineer of the steam-ship Great Liverpool.

You now know what vessel.

Well done Beatle, I should have thought that the owner of a saw-mill would have an obit.
