In the 1894 Directory there are no Simpson Butchers in West Hartlepool, there is a Robert Simpson in Southwick Lane, Sunderland.
In the 1902 Directory under Butchers, there are five entries for Simpson.
Anthony Simpson, Thornley; J. Simpson, 15 Brunswick Street, W. Hartlepool; Mrs. Mary Simpson, Lynesack, Butterknowle; P. Simpson, Walden Street, W. Hartlepool; Thomas Simpson, 63 High Street, Willington. None in Sunderland.
In the 1914 Directory, in West Hartlepool, there is only one entry, Philip Simpson, beef & pork butcher, Walden Street, none in Sunderland.

he was the 1st to import frozen meat from america.
thanks alison

The first consignment of chilled meat came from the United States in 1875, followed in the next four years by consignments of frozen meat from South America, New Zealand ans Australia. Refrigeration techniques inproved from 1880 and imports of frozen meat rose considerably.
