Nottinghamshire Probates/Wills - Completed

Hi all

How can I, from a distance, find out if a person who died and was buried in  Underwood in 1894 left a will, and if so find out the provisions of that will.

From 1858 all wills were administered centrally.  If you send a letter and £5 by post to the York Probate Registry they will look it up and send you a copy of the will and grant if they find one.  Alternatively there are indexes in London at First Avenue House on High Holborn - perhaps put a post and see if any London-based chatters would be able to do a look up.

Thanks for that link Richard. 

All seems very straightforward and not too expensive provided that at the end of the day a will is found.

I take it that a look at the index would tell me if a will had been registered for probate, so your suggestion of a lookup request would be a prudent start.

Notts archive has confirmed that a will exists and has given me all of the information that I need to apply for a copy fron Court Services.
