Hello Alison

Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

What exactly are you trying to find out about Elenor Stokoe?  Are you trying to link her to your family?  Was Stokoe her married or maiden name?

If you'd like to give more details of who she was with on the 1901 census and her age and place of birth, to save us having to search for it, that would help.  Do you need the earlier census lookups before 1881?

Durham county records office has patient records for Winterton if you're trying to find out the reason for her admission:

Kind regards

It was the census references for 1881-1901 I'd like really, so that I can have a look at them all.  I found an Ellener STOKER mother in law living with John & Elizabeth Ainsley in 1891, not in Winterton hospital as you said, is that the right person?

This must be George then in 1871.  No wife present, will see if I can find her.  As there's a young baby, it's possible she may have had what they called mental problems after the birth and was admitted to Winterton, maybe just had post-natal depression.  She must have come back home though, to have Richard in 1875 and George in 1876, then maybe became ill again.  You should be able to look at the records at Durham records office (link given earlier)

1871 RG10 Piece 5079 Folio 41 Page 2
18 & 19 Armstrong Street, Elswick, Newcastle
STOKOE
George  28 head married Joiner & Fruiterer   Corbridge Northumberland
Thomas  4  son    Scholar
Annie     3  dau
Mary     1     "
Emma    3 months
Margaret SCOTT  serv 15 General Servant   Durham Bishopwearmouth

1881 census can be seen here, Thomas & Annie still with George, and children George & Richard now appear, but not Mary or Emma.  Maybe Ellenor had problems after childbirth again

Elenor's name is crossed out on the 1901 census and no details given for her, so I don't think she was actually at home in 1901

Hi Alison,

Ages on census (and certificates) vary a lot, so I wouldn't worry about that too much

Is this their marriage?
