this lady was in winterton hospital 1891 and 1881 according to family stories i dont know why but she was with the family in 1901 she died there during the 1st world war im hoping the name is right because she is only ever referred to as granmother and i have no other info on them alison

she would be my gggranmother born about 1848? married to george stokoe 1866 children annie 1868 george 1876 richard 1875-1907 my g grandda lived at bell terrace elswick newcastle they had a shop on scotswood road a newsagent and barbers around 1881 -1901 elenor is missing on census apart from 1901 they are living in scotswood rd by then. so id like to know why she was in winterton and where she was born sure it was durham and anythingelse about her you can find thank you

hello i dont think so the notes in the certificates i have been given are difinatly stokoe and the name elen or elenor and it just says granmother died sedgefield mental hospital 8 dec 1918 maiden name longstaff married to george stokoe 25 feb 1866 alison

This must be George then in 1871. No wife present, will see if I can find her. As there's a young baby, it's possible she may have had what they called mental problems after the birth and was admitted to Winterton, maybe just had post-natal depression. She must have come back home though, to have Richard in 1875 and George in 1876, then maybe became ill again. You should be able to look at the records at Durham records office (link given earlier)

thank you very much i had veiwed 1901 but didnt realise it was crossed out not nice discribed as lunatic her age should be 55 though. been reading lotsof notes i found a couple of hours ago starting to make sense of it now thanks alison
