I have death certificate 1846, address Hendurnpick - Old Turnpike, Beddgelert. Have been trying to find it on 1851 census, looked at all 69 pages for Beddgelert without success.
Anyone out there with local knowledge who could help please?

Hi ger1,
I have death certificate dated 18th September 1846, for Griffith Ellis,(widower) aged 59, mason, at Hendurnpick, informant John Roberts (don't know who this is!.
1841 he was living Ty'nlon, Beddgelert.
Griffith Ellis was my gt.gt.gt.grandpa, married to Jane Thomas. their daughter Catherine Griffith 1810 was my gt.gt.grandma., born Pantyrrchain, Beddgelert.
I haven't come across Hendurnpick before in my research, so don't know why he was there or who is was with, unless one of his three other daughters had married and were living there. I haven't yet found marriages for them.
What dates did you find your family living there?
Glenys

my great gran was born circa 1873 and moved to Tyrpeg Bach ( small Turnpike) Aberglaslyn most probably late 19th century. I know exactly where the house is and theres an old fig tree outside the door which was 100 yrs old in the year 2000. I cant imagine there would have been 2 turnpikes within such a small area?

ger1,
Perhaps we can find a photo of this dwelling.
I am going away for a while, but will get back to this subject as soon as possible.

Hi 1891 map shows a Turnpike Bach (Little/small Turnpike) between Nantmor and Aberglaslyn. It also shows a Turnpike at Aberglaslyn. I'm also informed that there was a turnpike near Craflwyn on the Beddgelert/Nantgwynant road, but can't see one on the map. I'm not able at home to access information as to where the property which Shaun gives a reference for is. Some of my ancestors lived at Aberglaslyn. The censuses I've looked at lists properties at Aberglaslyn, but does not name them, just gives a 'schedule number'. So it's possible that the property you're looking for is on the census, but not named. I'll make further enquiries when next at the County Archives, which is only about 5 miles from where I live.

Hi Failed to find this property on looking on 1841 Census on Ancestry website. When looking on 1851 Census something went wrong with system so resorted to looking on the film, and again failed to find it. The reference quoted by a respondent to your query appears to be incorrect (HO107/2513/198/2).
I then found that when trying to locate a property on the 1861 Census, that I'd made a note of the properties near it on the Census. Amongst them (4), were Hen Durnpike and Craflwyn.

Hi If you go on Ancestry website, Wales 1861 Census, Carnarvonshire, Beddgelert, District 11, page 4, you'll find Hendurnpike. Emyr
