Hi I wonder if anyone can help!
I am looking for a Francis drew born in Calne in 1865, The only census I can find him on 1881 in Merthyr Tydfil with his mother Jane Vaughan (drew) remarried with her new husband William from calne. I cant find Francis on the 1871 census or any other in formation. I cant find any information on William Vaughan either before the marriage to Jane in merthyr tydfil 1877 11a 600. I was wondering did Jane go home to calne after her first husband died and brought home her son Francis and her new husband and married in Merthyr tydfil?
Any information on the drews would be greatly recieved.

the 1881 that you have actually tells us quite a lot more about the family and their movements
William Vaughan 48 bn Calne Wilts
Jane 49 bn Calne Wilts
William Drew stepson 19 bn Glamorgan
Francis Drew stepson 16 bn Calne
John Drew 14 stepson I annoyingly cant make out his birthplace but it is not Calne or Glamorgan!
so there are 3 children to look for which might help find them in 1871.
they clearly had links with Wales - but I see on that 1881 that there are a family of Drews born Glamorgan just a few doors away (on same page) so maybe Mr Drew her first husband hailed from that area.

Hi thanks for replying
John was born in Glamorgan, I have pieced together the family in Hirwaen but when it comes to the 1881 census there is a extra person Francis Drew born calne on the Census who I cant find any records for on on the 1871 census. William and John are living with Jane and her late husband William in 1871 in Hirwaen but in 1881 Jane as remarried William Vaughan from calne I was wondering did she go home and Francis was with her relations and brought home a husband and son. I cant find anything regarding William Vaughan except the marriage to jane and from the 1881 census onwards. William was born in 1833.

so they did move about Wales a bit!
I wonder where Francis was, or if he just got missed off by mistake?

In 1871 William Vaughan is at
RG10 5329 23 5 -Bedwelty, Monmouth
He is born Calne, and has a wife, Mary, but no children with him.

Thats the family! Yes Francis is missing I cant locate him anywhere on the 1871 census or birth records thanks you so much for the William Vaughan location that was great. The entries for the drews in the street are other family members from Jane and William Drew. There also looks like william drews brother is within the area also and all come from a cornelius drew from calne.

Its strange where Francis is. I cant seem to find him at all only with Jane and William Vaughan in 1881

IF that was him, and IF his middle name was Henry, and IF he was known by his middle name - then this COULD be him in 1891

lodger in H/H of lots of Smarts.
Lots if IF's that need sorting before you take this as being him though.

Another possible scenario is that stepson Francis is actually a Stepdaughter Frances, and 1881 is not accurate.
There is this birth
Jan/Feb/Mar 1865
Calne reg distr 5a 76
Frances Mary Drew
(reg distr much nearer what you would expect that the Francis H I found)

I WAS liking that theory, but now not so sure as I think that girl Frances is on 1871 at

as a daughter of George and Martha in Calne (called Fanny Drew)

Hi all thanks for all your help on this, I have been to the RO in Merthyr Tydfil as this covers Hirwaen, area and I can find any church or any other records for francis, its strange that all the children since Mary Ellen 1854 where born in Glamorgan whilst he was born in Calne 1865. Perhaps the family went home for a short spell ? .

But there isnt a birth reg for him in Calne ......
and we have just ruled out the only 2 birth reg's anything like him.
