Do you have a date of birth for him? Parents' names?
There is an Ohio death certificate for a Patrick Sheridan who died at age 68 on 8 Jul. 1948. No parents' names or birth place were given, but he was being buried in Chicago, which seems like an unusual burial place for someone who lived in Cleveland. It's available here: http://labs.familysearch.org/

The bottom left of the certificate lists the burial place as Chicago. It looks like the informant was the embalmer.
On www.footnote.com, there is a declaration of intention from 1938 for a John Patrick Sheridan in Cleveland, as well as a petition for naturalization from 1940. It's a pay site, but you can sort of see his picture on the declaration if you click where it says "Quick Look." (Looking at another index, I think this guy might be too young to be your guy.)

The WWI Draft Registration Cards are on Ancestry.com.
I'm not sure if that John Patrick is the one. Maybe someone has access to it somewhere to check.

That Social Security number was issued in Ohio. You can see the chart indicating that here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rwguide/lesson10.htm#numbers If you scroll down on that page, it also gives information about ordering his original application for the Social Security card. If it turns out that he might be the right guy, the application has places for parents' names, so that might help confirm things.
Do you know what became of his brother John? If he stayed in the US, maybe his death certificate or obituary would give some clues about Patrick.

Census information Crown Copyright, from www.natio

I've not finished looking at all of the information, so I could be following the wrong family, but...
1920 Villa Park, Illinois census has John Sheridan, born c1880 (born England, father born Ireland, mother born England) living with wife, Ellen and their children. Also living with the family were John Sheridan, age 14 and James Sheridan, age 14. They were John's nephews and were born in Ireland. They state their father was born England, mother born Ireland. They immigrated 1912.
1912 immigration was Bridget Sheridan, age 34, with children John (age 4 years and 6 months), James (age 3 years and 7 months) and Mary Elizabeth (2 years and 1 month). Destination: Husband Patrick Sheridan, 1499? N Camac? St, Phila.
I just noticed the children's birthplace was Philadelphia, so that eliminates this family (and this John Sheridan).
So far, I cannot find a John Sheridan living on Randolph Street.
