virgin or norton

I've got norton security on my computer but my virgin broadband says i have to uninstall it for virgin to run - whats best please virgin or norton??

Are you saying you have 2 antivirus/firewall programs running on the 1 machine?
This is a complete no go situation.
(I just use 360 ver3)

Virgin is not actually a program so what you are saying does not make sense.

Normally you connect to the Internet using a browser program like Internet Explorer or Firefox.  If you have a Speedtouch USB modem then Thomson supply some software to allow the hardware to operate.

When you say Virgin are telling you to get rid of Norton - do you mean PCGuard?

Are you having some problems with your broadband access which Virgin feel are being caused by Norton?

Some years ago I installed Norton on my PC - anti virus and firewall - and had terrible problems accessing AOL

When I contacted AOL - the first question they asked was whether I had Norton on my PC.  When I uninstalled it - no problems

Your question is "Norton or Virgin" and it's one only you can answer.  If you are locked into a contract with Virgin  and their diagnosis is that your Norton is the root cause of any problem - then Norton will have to go

If you want to keep Norton and are free to leave Virgin at any time - then choose a different ISP that is more compatible

Going back to your original question?
What have you got installed on your machine (what version of internet security have you) and do you have Virgin supplied PC Guard.
Do you have your service supplied via a telephone line or via a cable modem (if via a set top box contact customer services to change service to cable modem).

Hi yes I have pc guard and it keeps coming up that it is conflicting with norton and asking me to uninstall norton - but is pc guard as good as norton as that is why i originally brought norton to stop viruses etc?

As you have paid for Norton then I would uninstall PCGuard for now.

When your annual subscription for Norton Anti-Virus comes up for renewal then you should consider reinstalling PCGuard and uninstalling Norton as it is free and as good as any anti-virus program on the market.

I think Virgin might just mean that you have to disable your Norton security when you install the Virgin software.  This is not at all unusual.
