UPDATE..........
THE GRANDAUGHTER  rang at 2-30 pm ..and left a message on the answer machine....BECAUSE... S.A (the lady with the letters) was visiting the church they married in AT THE TIME the grandaughter rang....how bizaar is that....me thinks someone above was watching over them today...lol...allan Smiley

Thanks for the heads up, Allan. I've been checking back every day, but hadn't been on there tonight. What a wonderful conclusion. OP posted about half an hour ago that she has spoken to the grand daughter, who was very excited and pleased to hear about the letters. I think a good ending all round.
